How serious is it?

Is it just a little heartburn or something more serious?

Most people experience reflux occasionally, but some suffer from it more regularly. If you experience heartburn – or other symptoms of reflux – more than twice a week, or if your heartburn interferes with your daily life, you may have the underlying condition GORD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease).

GORD can only be diagnosed by a doctor

If you do experience symptoms regularly, it’s important to seek medical advice, so your doctor can treat the underlying condition.

Not only can GORD damage the lining of your oesophagus, it can also affect your quality of life if left untreated. It is not possible to tell from your symptoms whether or not you have damage to your oesophagus. That's why it's important to see your doctor. If left untreated, GORD can lead to other medical problems. Fortunately, many of these complications can be avoided with proper monitoring.
